Before starting, be sure to clean the surface area with a good detergent and water rinse, removing any dirt, soap, or oily debris. If you choose to sand badly weathered areas, be sure to clean and clear after sanding. Although TeaQua covers weathered wood extremely well, giving a darker look, pre-sanded teak will always look best when treated. Using a good teak cleaner is recommended for untreated surfaces or surfaces that have not been treated for a long period of time. You may also use a bronze brush or pad to clean and prep the surface before coating. Remember that TeaQua can penetrate most existing treatments except those that are "hard" in nature such as varnish or the like. Be sure to cover or tape those surfaces that you do not wish to coat! Keep a damp water wet cloth close by for simple wipe up.
The secret to TeaQua success is in its excellent spread ability and superior penetration properties. Using a brush or roller (for large areas) spread TeaQua evenly with the grain. Only a small amount is necessary to wet out a large area. TeaQua has a cream like consistency that will appear to look brown in color. However, TeaQua is translucent when applying. Coverage is aproximately 40-60 square feet per quart dependent upon age and dryness. TeaQua oil will penetrate easily into the teak surface. You will observe penetration as you continue to apply. Allow at least one half hour before applying any additional coating. Be sure that the initial application has been absorbed, smoothing out any "shiny" spots as you go. You may also use a cloth to easily apply by rubbing the formula for a classic "rubbed wood" look. If you so desire (although not completely necessary) apply a second coat after the first has been absorbed. Allow at least one day before rinsing.
Clean-up is easy with soap and water. Any dried liquid may be cleaned with a paint remover.
